Locks of Love Got All of My Hair!!!

So I decided about 18 months ago or so that I wanted to grow out my hair to donate it to Locks of Love. The last 18 months were a test of endurance, commitment, and self-control...just kidding, it really wasn't a big deal. Hair grows, you cut it and then it grows again!

This was the last time a pair of scissors touched my head. The date was June 30th, 2008.

View from the front.

View from the back.

They had to put all of my hair into little pony tails to make sure there was enough length.

This is when Mandi started to get nervous.

Then it was time to shave off the pony tails!

I wanted to leave a little so I could have a mullet. Mandi said that would be fine if I enjoyed the single life :)

We managed to keep a little bit of hair, but if you look closely, it looks like somebody hit a sand shot from the top of my head and left a divot.

And there it is! 12 inches of hair to Locks of Love!!!

Even though all of my hair was gone, it still felt like I had my strength. Take that Samson!

  6. That's great! I lopped off 14 inches of hair once to donate to locks of love and then, get this, lost my hair. I found it a year later but they couldn't take it because it was so dried out.

  12. How very cool! I wish more guys would do this, esp. since you can play the "it's just hair" card a lot easier than we ladies can, and can literally grow it out 13 inches, buzz it, and be done! Super cool, and it looks GREAT shorter! (although I'm more of a clean-cut fan in general, myself). Cheers!

  13. Hey Tabitha- This is from the Locks of Love website in regards to wether the children pay for the wigs or not

"We provide hairpieces and repairs free of charge or on a sliding scale based on the financial need of those responsible for the children."

  15. AWESOME!!!!! I'm planning on doing the same thing. Recently had my SIL measure my hair length, but I don't have quite enough to chop off yet...we'll see. That's so great to do! I love Mandi's comment about the mullet!!!!! :)

  16. Hey! I emailed you but I don't know if you got it so I figured I would comment on here. First of all my daughter has chopped her hair off twice and donated it to locks of love. I wish my hair grew like hers. My bday is 2/1/80 and have CF. I was diagnosed at 5 months. I think we were seperated at birth...lol, just kidding! I have a caringbridge page that I update about my health if you wanna check it out www.caringbridge.org/visit/65rosescf

    Thanks, Shannon!!!
