New Insurance...In an Old Kind of Way

Mandi started a new job last week and with that came new insurance. I've been on COBRA since we got married but have yet to make a claim on it. They may come after me for some meds that were tabbed to my old insurance, but that's only because we got 17 different answers to just one question. The questions was simple in nature, but seemed impossible to answer by anyone that we spoke to. The question was this: "When does my coverage end?". That's simple enough right? We were told 60 days, 45 days, 30 days, 14 days, immediately, whenever the paperwork is filled, whenever the paperwork gets processed, etc. Finally (we think) the answer is that my insurance ceased the day we got married. Again, we're not sure, but then again, it sounds like the powers that be aren't either. We got COBRA just to be safe and we didn't want to have a lapse in my coverage.

The great thing about Mandi's new job is that I'll have the same exact insurance that I had under my mom. I'm hoping that will limit the number of battles that I have to fight with them as they "know me". But, as we all know, insurance companies rarely pay without a fight. It will be very interesting heading into today as I have a CF appointment plus I have meds to fill. It's always a little nerve wracking when switching policies and today will be no different. I hope that it's a smooth transition though and I won't have to spend hours upon hours on the phone with these guys.

I guess the first order of business is figuring out what my new policy number is :)

You can post it to CL and you can also email it to me at ronnie@cysticlife.org. Thank you for your kind words on your blog. It's much appreciated :)
Praying for your appointment. We have one too. Ugg! They are always long days for a 4 year old, but we praise God for good dr's and for the med's that keep her going.

Just wanted to let you know what an encouragement you, your mom and Mandi are to our family. We have enjoyed hearing the good, the bad and the just plain ol' stuff that adult cfers deal with. We are working hard to get the word out about cf and finding a cure soon. In the mean time we so appreciate a "brother" and a fibro that lives a life pleasing to the King. Thank you for all that you do to encourage others. May God be near and bless you like only He can. Peace

Thank you for your kind words!! I'm so thankful that you can draw upon the encouragement that this blog gives and just know that I'm always here if you need something beyond that :)
Your old insurance ends the day you get married. COBRA retroactively starts that same day, even if it takes you 30 days to fill out the paperwork. :) You are eligible for COBRA for 3 yrs. as you were a dependent on your mom's plan. That interim period is a pain in the butt, but worth not having the lapse in coverage. :) Good luck!!!
Don't forget to get the "certificate of prior coverage" that shows the start/end dates of your old policy so they don't slap you with any lapse. It's usually 30-60 days to get new coverage, and then the coverage "usually" goes retroactive to the last day of the old policy as long as you pay the premiums from that date on immediately.
