My PFT History

I get asked about my PFT numbers almost everyday. I'm constantly referring people to this post, so I figured I would highlight it today.

Hey. Great blog man. I enjoyed reading as I'm going through pretty much the same thing. I had a question though when looking at your PFT numbers over the years. They change a LOT very fast a few months apart. Up and down and up. Can you explain that in any way? I'm a bit puzzled.

cheers

You know, I can't really explain it. The high numbers generally come after hospital stays and then I slowly decline in lung function until I'm at my low.

I'd love any suggestions on how I can try to level off my lung function.

I don't know about you, but the new module has succeeded in confusing me--despite getting it explained to me a billion times. I always ask them to convert back to the 'old system'.

you know, i came across this post awhile back, and it really helped me to understand PFTs and what it all means. I watched the video and knew what to expect the first time I went with Mike to get his PFTs! Thanks Ronnie!

There seems to be a big permanent drop in 2000. You never reached 100% FEV1 again. What were you doing at that time in your life? I'm just curious.

I don't have such a detailed list of mine, though I'm sure I could collect them. Mine have been very steady slow decline though. From memory, going from about 67% FEV1 at age 18 to 44% FEV1 at age 33.

Tara- I moved out of my parents house in 2000. Coincidence?? I think not :)

I didnt have numbers like that until after my transplant! My first FEV1 after transplant was 51% I almost cried.

WOW, your PFT's do like mine do -bounce around. I think its b/c I am not very good at PFT's and my complaince is always changing. I honestly think I can bring ALL ym lung function back BUT its going to take alot of work -and Im trying.

I think I am going to spend the time and chart my PFT's.

wow what has happened lately dude? you've smashed it! It's good to see steadily regain lung function , provides me with inspiration!
