Where Should We Go on Our Honeymoon?

*Post written by Mandi - Mandi Monday has bled into Top Ten Tuesday.

The wedding planning is coming along, but we are really down to the wire when it comes to booking a honeymoon. We are all over the place when it comes to what we want. We know we want to go somewhere beachy because we'd like to just be able to relax and lay around. We wouldn't mind doing a few "off-campus" adventures, so it would be nice to go somewhere that had little excursions, like zip-lining or snorkeling also. Also, we would like somewhere that the flight from AZ is relatively short and inexpensive. So that's what we know, but when it comes to how much we want to spend, we fluctuate. Do we go really cheap and figure it's just a week? Or do we go nicer since we only get one honeymoon? Do we go all inclusive or do we not? Do we go to Mexico, the Caribbean, or somewhere totally different?

This is where you all come in. We would LOVE some input. We've wanted to to book our honeymoon for weeks and just can't pull the trigger because we're too indecisive. But we have to book it THIS WEEK. So please please please tell us about the good and bad trips you've gone on, resorts you've stayed in, etc. We have had some GREAT suggestions thus far, but want a little more insight before taking the plunge.

So let us have it. WHERE SHOULD WE GO ON OUR HONEYMOON??

Our son (CF'er) and his wife took a five day cruise for their honeymoon. They got to parasail, swim with dolphins, could have snorkeled but didn't, and relaxed on the beach. They LOVED it. The cruise line was accommodating in meeting his medical needs also. Let me know if you need advice or info and I will put you in touch with him. We live in Phoenix.

Maui!!!!

Saty in Kihei Mauis best kept secret!! Its AMAZING!!
A cruise is good cuz you get a lot for your money. but if you go during hurricane season you don't want to be stuck on a ship if you cant dock on a port where the hurricane is. Also you would have to fly to the city where the port of call is and depending on the city flight can cost you. I have been to Mexico and it is beautiful. I miss it and I think about it even ten years later. I saw the Mayas, the people were great, and the beaches to die for. Also look into Costa Rica nothing but beauty and everything you can think of on that island.
Highly recommend an all inclusive resort that doesn't allow children. While my husband and I adore our 2 little ones it was a very peaceful week without lots of screaming children in the swimming pools or at dinner.
We went to St. John USVI and it was wonderful. 2/3 of the island is forest preserve so it's not very populated and great for hiking and snorkeling and just relaxing about. I'm not sure about it being "close" to AZ airfare wise, but we loved it and hope to go back again - maybe for our 10th anniversary.
From a Frommers review...

The magical Verana is among my favorite places to stay in Mexico. It has an unparalleled ability to inspire immediate relaxation and a deep connection with the natural beauty of the spectacular coast. Although Yelapa is 30 minutes by water taxi from town, even those unfamiliar with the village should consider it. Verana has nine rustic yet sophisticated suites located among eight bungalows, set into a hillside with sweeping views of the mountains and ocean. Each is a work of art, hand-crafted with care and creativity by owners Heinz Leger, a former film production designer, and prop stylist Veronique Lieve. Each has a private terrace and two beds -- but you won't find TVs, telephones, or other distractions. My favorite suite is the Studio; it's the most contemporary, with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that perfectly frame the spectacular view. The European-trained chef prepares scrumptious creations -- global cuisine with a touch of Mexico. Verana also has a magically crafted spa, and a yoga hut where daily classes take place. Compare this to the prices of the other rustic-chic resorts along Mexico's Pacific coast, and you'll find it's a true value. Adventurous travelers should not miss a stay at this unique place.

David and I went to the Dominican Republic to Casa del Mar. All inclusive. Great food, great people, great beaches. Cheap markets, wonderful outback excurtions. Have a good time. Take lots of pictures.

I recommend a cruise. There is constant entertainment, delicious food around every corner (prepare to gain 5 pounds), and plenty of excursion opportunities. If you stop in St. Marteen, there is a treetop zip wire course that is amazing. My favorite cruise liner is royal carribbean. Save money by getting a smaller indoor room. My other favorite vaca was a road trip through Sedona, camping in the backcountry of the petrified forest, grand cayon, and vegas. That is already near you though, so I don't know if that is a "new" adventure. Plus, there is a lot more planning involved..on a criuse it is already all at your fingertips!
We went to the mountains, total opposite of what you guys are wanting. However I am not a huge fan of the beach, I would suggest Hawaii. They have the rain forest and volcanoes. There is really a lot to do when it comes to non beach activity. I have never been, but my step brother lives there with his wife. If I did love the beach like you guys, that would be a pick for me. I always like to choose my destination based on culture instead of activity though. My top two places I want to see are Africa and Ireland. =) I hope you guys figure it out!! =)
I think you should just splurge...GO BIG!
We kept it kinda small, and just three years later we're thinking we already need a SECOND honeymoon...
Since you asked all of us what you should do.... If you are using credit to pay for the honeymoon go cheap. Don't spend what you do not have. If you've got some cash than go BIG! That is my so very boring practical advice. Whatever you decide we all will need many pictures of the wedding and honeymoon. Blessings on you both!

Ok..check out the "RIU" Resort in Cancun. We went there for our anniversary. So beautiful..great for couples!! I was very selective and was very pleasantly suprised! It is ALL inclusive! We did parasailing and snorkling and body boarding ..lots of pools swim up bars and hot tubs and lots of shopping! In fact, we even took and bus ride to Playa Del Carmen for the day and there is another RIU location there and we ate and drank and banana boats all for free..all because we had been staying with a RIU hotel..I highly recommend!!!
Hi. My husband (wCF, now 35 and nearly 5 months post Tx - see willslungs.blogspot.com) and I got married two years ago. We live in the UK and went completely off-piste for our honeymoon, spending two weeks exploring chilly Iceland. My top tips are (1) go for more than a week - you'll be pretty tired to start with after all the organising and celebrating and it takes a little while to get over that; (2) don't over-hype the romance! You may find yourselves feeling a little flat after the excitement of the wedding. Personally, I find it hard to feel romantic under pressure, so I'm kind of glad we didn't go for a classic tropical island honeymoon package. The important thing is to choose something that you'll enjoy together even if one of you wakes up feeling grumpy, rather than trying to create the 'perfect' romantic moment. Also, I loved the fact that Iceland is clean and under-population - it meant I didn't worry too much about Will catching a cold while we were away! I might be a little anxious about the germ element of a cruise ship... Good luck deciding! Vicky
I say go big. You never know where life is going to take you...life with CF is too unpredictable. We went to Maui and LOVED it!
Rocky Point? Accommodations are cheap, lots of "off-campus" adventures (potato guns, sting rays, unpredictable fireworks), and I've heard the company is great! (although we won't be going this year.)
We loved St. John. It was beautiful, very private, and not overrun with touristy stuff but yet enough to do. It has good off beach snorkeling, hiking etc. We stayed at Caneel Bay the only resort located in the national park. Our room walked out directly onto Hawkwsnest beach which is one of the top beaches in the world. Talk about serenity now :) Of course it's not cheap but is amazing.

Harbor Island in the bahamas is also very chill and beautiful. It's a VERY SMALL island off the coast of Eleuthra. Again one of the top beaches in the world with not much touristy stuff.
