Thankful Thursday - Lightning & S'mores

It's thankful Thursday time! We all have so much to be thankful for and we love to take this opportunity just to write down each and everything that comes to mind. as I mentioned, I no longer have the "linkytools" but I invite you to share your thankful blog in the comments section. Without further ado, here's what we're thankful for:

Mandi's List:

I'm thankful for BHG.com. This is Better Homes and Gardens' website and man do I love it. I get nearly all of my recipes from there for unique dinners that we want to cook, and rarely do they disappoint. I am not an amazing chef, so these recipes are perfect. They're "easy", unique and we can usually find a great variety!

I am thankful for spin class. Running is getting harder these days, so I am running only about 3 mornings a week and walking 2 mornings a week (I was running 5). Spin is a perfect add on in the afternoons for a lot extra cardio. It kicks my butt and wipes me out, yet the time just flies by!

I'm thankful for s'mores cereal. We've been eating s'mores cereal (no milk) after dinner as a dessert, and man is it good. It's just sweet enough to ease my sweet tooth, but not over-indulgent enough to make me feel guilty for having it every night.

Ronnie's List:

As I wrote about in yesterday's blog, I'm thankful for random acts of kindness. It's just amazing to me that someone who reads this blog or chats with me on CysticLife would feel the need to go out of their way to put a smile on my face. It always feels so undeserved, yet it encourages me to know that at least one person has been impacted by our story.

I'm thankful for lightning. I've always been fascinated by it and I'm not quite sure why. I still don't know where it comes from or why exactly it happens, but I tell you what, I can stand outside and stare at the stuff for hours. I just find it so beautiful. I was fortunate enough to see a lighting storm earlier today and it was absolutely awesome!

I'm thankful that my wife likes to cook. No, not because I don't, but because it's something we really enjoy doing together. We've been making some really tasty meals lately for dinner that also happen to be great for lunch the next day. The other good thing about two folks who don't mind being in the kitchen - the dishes get done twice as fast!

So, what are you thankful for today?

Mandi, how are you feeling these days? I can't remember how many weeks along you are? No Peanutette updates lately? I hope your feeling good. I am impressed how much cardio you are still doing! Way to go, Mandi.

PS. Ronnie, how are you doing? Feeling pretty good lately? Take care you two!

I'm doing great Jodi, thanks for asking!! Just really focusing on taking care of myself, getting all of my treatments in and getting to the gym :)
Glad to hear you are feeling well, Ronnie? Will you need to spend some time in "The Hole," before Peanutette is born? How does the heat affect your CF? I have VERY SEVERE asthma (nothing at all like the severity of CF), nevertheless, the heat KILLS me. Today, it's 98 degrees and when you factor in the HEAT INDEX it currently feels like 115 (or at least that's what the news is saying since I haven't left the house today). Add in the humidity and you get someone who needs to suck on her rescue inhaler ALL.DAY.LONG! I have moved on to nebulizer treatments instead of the inhaler since I am home anyway.

Take care of yourself!
I'll be going to the Hole sometime in September most likely. Heat doesn't seem to affect me all that much, but I've lived in AZ my whole life, but who knows. So does your chest just feel a lot tighter in heat? Humidity DEFINITELY kicks my booty!!
Tight, VERY MUCH SO! Then you have the elephant on your chest, the wheezing and that "funky cough!" But, it's short term. I have lots of options for treatment (sort of) and the liberty to start ROIDS anytime I see it fit as long as I call my MD within the first 48 hours of starting them (like if it was over the weekend). I am too start at 60 mg QD until I have noticable improvement, than I can begin the taper (40 X 4, 30X4, 20X4 and 10X4). As long as I don't drop down to 40 before I feel/hear a difference than this usually works. I also check my peak flows, several times a week.
Do you take Advair by chance?
Yes, Advair HFA 230/21 (2 puffs BID), among other preventatives, and Xopenex as a rescue; either an inhaler or the solution (1.25), if I am home (though my nebulizer is portable and can be used in the car). Why do you ask; do you know any secrets? It does make my voice a little raspy, but I would rather be able to breathe. :0)

I was seeing a Pulmonologist for awhile but he wasn't doing anything different than my PCP was doing, so why drive farther, sit in a waiting room for three days, and need to make appointments four months out when my PCP can handle it himself?

WTG on the weight loss!
Just making sure you were on it :) The only other thing I can suggest is looking into an allergy test. I've had many friends that have adjusted their diet based on the results and their asthma symptoms were much improved.
I have multiple health issues.....one of them being gastroparesis. I have a GI pacemaker (supposedly sends signals to the brain to lessen N/V and extreme abdominal pain). I am about 50% better with it! I will take anything. I am primarily tube fed so diet isn't an issue. But thank you! It's purely environmental, and weather related (too hot or too cold). I am kind of stuck! Just dealing with the hand I have been dealt, or at least trying. Thanks.

Wow, you're a stud! Keep on keeping on Jodi. Love your attitude :)
I'm feeling good, Jodi. Thanks for asking. I'm 25 weeks 2 days preggo today. I have tried to tone down the baby updates a bit, so people wouldn't get sick of peanut before she even gets here :) But I will post an update on Monday. A little mini-update since you asked - I am feeling good. Hungry a little more again (first trimester I could eat all the time, then it subsided a bit, and now I'm hungry like 50% of the time). I have been able to keep up my exercise. I've had to back off a bit on my intensity, but I'm still able to run 2.5-3 miles a day and then get a second cardio workout in on the treadmill, elliptical or a spin class, and then lift 3 days a week. I'm sure I'll have to dial it back even more at some point, but I'm enjoying getting to be active thus far :)

Thanks for checking in :)
Wow! Awesome, Mandi. I don't think people are getting tired of hearing about the baby.

Are you having any cravings, or are things tasting different; things you don't like you do now or things you liked and can't stand.

Are you feeling a lot of movement?

Hope your sleeping well.

Take care!
MMM! Smores cereal sounds so good! I'm going to have to look for it!
