My Equipment

A lot of you have been asking me lately about what equipment I use in terms of a compressor, Vest and neb cleaner*. I thought I would re-post this just in case some of you were wondering but didn't want to bother asking.

My Vest:

The inCourage™ system offers state-of-the-art airway clearance therapy incorporating the most recent advances in high - frequency chest compression (HFCC) science. Demand is growing rapidly as physicians and patients alike express their preference for the advantages of theinCourage™ system. My Compressor:

The durable MOBILAIRE 50 psi Compressor is ideal for use with medications that require more flow and pressure for proper nebulization. (http://www.invacare.com/cgi-bin/imhqprd/inv_catalog/prod_cat_detail.jsp?s=0&prodID=IRC607&catOID=-536885346)

My Portable Compressor:

The Invacare Stratos Portable Plus is a sleek, new portable compressor that will offer speed, ease-of-use and stylish design in one compact package. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, it will be ideal for those who desire mobility, expediency and efficiency in an aerosol delivery device. My Nebulizer Cleaner:

The Philips AVENT iQ24 Electronic Steam Sterilizer is the most sophisticated steam sterilizer you can buy and the easiest to use. It works quickly and continuously, keeping contents sterile until you need them, giving you more time to get on with your day. http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/us/consumer/cc/_categoryid_MCC_PREPARING_FOR_FEEDING_CA_US_CONSUMER/

*Oh, yeah, and I don't represent any of these companies nor do I benefit from them financially...my lungs do reap some benefits however!

Hey Ronnie! Can you give me a link to that Germ Guardian thing you got for Christmas? I searched for it, but found different kinds and I want to make sure I get the right one. Also, do you think it's worth buying? It takes so long to dry all the nebulizer parts and then I forget about them and leave them out drying, which I've heard isn't good. But I'm not sure that I want another device out on my counter...lol. However, if it works well and you think it's worth it, I'll get it! Thanks! Kerry

The link that Kat provided below is the exact one that I got!! I think anytime you can sterilize the nebs even "more" AND dry them at the same time, it's a win-win. Make sure you are sterilizing them first though before using the GG :)
Hey Ronnie, I was wondering if you could give me a list of things you couldn't live without or that make life easier for you. I'm getting Naythan's back pay for his SSI and I'd like to get the things he needs to make Life easier for both of us. Thanks. Dorothy

Hey everyone... if you'll buy the Germ Guardian from Target.com or Walmart.com you'll save about $20 dollars. The Germ Guardian site is selling it for $69.99. Target and Wal-Mart have it for $49.
I am buying the compressor you use as soon as I find a dealer. I have been really impressed with the 50 psi. That sounds really great. =)

I don't think I got mine at this exact site, but this one has it for the price I paid and I don't think that you need a prescription (I never had one either):

Ronnie how can Eric get the same equipment? Were working with stuff from the early 2000's. He can't leave our home because he has a neb that's 25 lbs and a vest that's 50 lbs.

You'd have to get the CF team to pursue a newer style vest for him. They're the only ones that could make it happen.
Oh and I have to clean and nebulize his nebs with isopropyl alcohol.
Did Medicare cover it or was it out of pocket?

I have private insurance, but I still paid for my compressor out of pocket.
I am researching different nebulizers for my son. What are the benefits of the ones you listed above, did you notice a difference in the amount of medicine you were getting? Did it cut your treatment time a little? Any info is appreciated, thanks :)

When I started using the Mobilaire, the treatments did in fact feel different. It actually felt like I was getting more out of them. It cut my treatment time in half. You cannot find a better compressor. A bunch of people on CysticLife.org have them now and love them!!
Hi Ronnie, I was wondering what your thoughts on the vest are? How often/long do you use it? In Canada they are not covered by insurance but my Fiance and I are thinking about applying for private funding through businesses to help offset the cost of the vest. Do you have any information about it?

I use my vest 3-4 times a day for 30 minutes to an hour at a time. I think they're better than nothing, but it'd be important to make sure you try all airway clearance strategies first before deciding on a vest.

And I'm not sure what information you're looking for in your last question?
i am a 12 year old with cystic fibrosis and i was wondering what compressor will make my treatments go faster? I am on albuterol, hypertonic saline, pulmazyme and TOBI and it takes about 2 hours! Any suggestions?

I would look into the Mobilaire compressor by Invacare. It cut my treatment time in half!!
just another question, i have a vest called the vest by Hill Rom and i was wondering why you use the InCourage vest instead of the the vest by Hill Rom?
It's what my insurance company would pay for :)
You might ask your CF care center if they can get you a prescription for taking tobramycin with an eFlow nebulizer instead of TOBI. It only takes 4 minutes. I get it for my daughter from IV Solutions in Lubbock, TX and they gave us the machine (it's very small and portable) for as long as we get the medication from them.
ok thank you!
